A USB cable (included) can power this automatic electric pencil sharpener for environmentally conscious users, or 4 x AA batteries (batteries not included) can be used for portability. It sharpens an average of 10-12 pencils per minute. It is designed with an auto-off feature that stops operation when the shavings cover is removed and a sliding safety cover over the larger sharpening hole to prevent small fingers from being inserted.
